Sourdough Bagel Recipe

Learn how to  make these homemade Sourdough Bagels

Bagels mmmm Cream Cheese mmmm!! We love these bagels, only minimum fus to create these bad boys. After they bake and cool, I slice in half and toast them and smear on as much cream cheese as I want! Favorite cream cheese is from organic valley cream cheese that you can grab on Azure Standard, it’s got a delicious taste.

As for what type of starter you could use, honestly I’ve used it at several different stages (active, fed hours ago, etc) as long as it can sit for 12 hours it will turn out wonderful. Thank you to Little Spoon Farm for the original recipe.  These are fairly simple to make, if you would like these for breakfast you may need to make the day before or wake up in time to shape, allow to rise, boil & bake.  See what works good for your schedule.

They also make delicious Bagel Pizzas!

See how I form the bagels – this technique creates the best texture for Bagels!

Directions:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer attached your dough hook and add in the following ingredients; starter, water, honey, salt and flour. Let mix for 6-7 minutes, the dough will be very stiff. Cover the bowl and let rest at room temperature overnight.
3. Bring to a boil the water and sugar mixture. Once to a boil turn on your oven to 425 Degrees F to preheat. Boil the bagels -about 3 at a time- for 2 minutes on each side. Using a slotted spoon drain each bagel and place back onto the parchment paper.
4. After slightly cooling you can then sprinkle salt on them or dip them into seasoning.

5. Bake the bagels at 425°F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
