How to Create Easy Breadcrumbs

Are you asking yourself why wouldn’t she just go and buy her own breadcrumbs? Well let me explain why. We are called Food Prood’s for a reason right? We are very prudish about our food. We raise our meat and veggies all organically because we’ve realized we can only trust ourselves. Seems dire doesn’t it? Well it’s hard work, but it’s worth it and we’ve been able to take our experiences in growing all the things to teach others.

Plus it’s a great way to use up those ends of the loaves, or rolls I baked a little to long and it’s made with all organic ingredients!

So it works, plus it is fairly easy.

I’ll gather up the pieces and put them in a freezer bag if I do not have a full tray load (cookie sheet). Once I do, I’ll break them up as small as I can quickly with my hands and place on a cookie sheet and bake on a low temp at 300 degrees F for 10-30 minutes. The timing will depend on if the pieces were frozen, how fresh the bread was, how big your pieces you broke them up into. The key is to low and slow dry these out. Once they are dry I’ll put into my Kitchen Aid Food Processor and chop away, then I’ll toss in the spices that I like and voila, BREADCRUMBS DONE!

Ingredients:
Bread in the form of…. (or whatever you have on hand)

Directions:

Crumble up whatever bread pieces you have and place onto a cookie sheet or tray.  Place into an oven and turn on at 300 degrees F for 10-30 minutes or until crunchy.  The goal is to dry these out so they last a long time in a storage containers.   I’ll turn on and off the oven sometimes because it’s easier to tell if they are dry when they are cooled off.  Once dry place in a food processor and blend. Add in your spices to create your favorite flavor of breadcrumbs.  I’ll use real salt, pepper, garlic and paprika and give a quick blend. Store in an airtight container until needed. If you do not have a Food Processor you could use a meat pounder or whatever you have on hand.

Use these breadcrumbs for Eggplant Parmesan, Casseroles, Chicken Nuggets or Fish!

This is the Food Processor I use and LOVE!
