DIY Wood Butter

You’ll just need 2 simple ingredients Coconut Oil + Beeswax!

What is wood butter? Well it’s a healing salve for your wooden utensils & cutting boards in the kitchen! It’s fairly simple to make and use as well. It’s really important to keep the boards and utensils smooth, it helps keep them much longer and seal out germs.

Since we are using Beeswax I like to have dedicated equipment for things like the wood butter, lotion bars and soaps.

Ingredients

12 Ounces Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

4 Ounces Beeswax

(Essential Oil is optional)

Tools

Kitchen Scale
Small Pot
Spoon
Half Pint Jar

Directions

  1. Place the pan on the kitchen scale and zero it out.  Place the coconut oil and measure out 12 ounces.  Zero out the scale.
  2. Now add in the beeswax (preferred pellets) slowly until you reach 4 ounces.
  3. Heat over low and bring to a complete melt.
  4. Remove from heat. If your using essential oils drop 5-10 drops and stir.
  5. Carefully pour into the glass jar and let completely cool (overnight and use the next day)
  6. To Use:  Simply scoop out and using your hands (I prefer and then I’ll rub it in a lotion) or a paper towel and apply liberally to the desired wood utensil or cutting board.  (make sure they are clean and dry)
  7. Let sit for several hours to allow the wood to absorb.  Then using a scraper or another paper towel and wipe off the excess.
  8. Use this whenever tools are starting to look dry.
