We’re In It Now

It’s nearing the end of summer here in Northern Michigan- our first frost date is looming in the middle of September.  I know, why I even say such things! Well as a Homesteader and especially in Northern Michigan we have got to move quick, think of the next thing and keep on keepin’ on!  So yes it’s GO time, it’s when you pray and hope all your hard work for the last few months pays off so you can stock your shelves and have Freedom in Food.

It’s been a little bit different this year and I know I’ve talked about it before but my spring predictions unfortunately have been right.  The weather just has been “different” , there’s been lots of cloudy days, hazy days from the Canada wildfires and cooler temperatures and it has effected the plants. They just are not thriving as usual and some items like Cucumbers are finally coming in just now.

But this is how it is, you just never know what your gonna get. I’m not the one controlling the weather so I just do my best. I hedge my bets. I plant more than what I think I’ll need.  Last year was an abundance plus and I was able to offer so many delicious organic home grown goodness to family & friends. This year…nada, nothing. Its all gotta go into the coffers.

And I’m trying to say this with positivity – this is how it is- it’s what happens. If your feeling discouraged this year by your garden do NOT give up. Learn. Hedge your bets. Plant again. And again. And again. Do NOT give up. I’m gonna say this again. Do NOT give up.

This is one step to becoming a Food Prood– you don’t give up. You continue to plant, to learn and to reap whatever rewards is given to you.

Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” KJV

And indeed He is supplying we are starting to see the garden goodness coming in.

We’ve pulled all the garlic and they are curing.
We started pulling the onions as well.
Zucchini a plenty out of just a few plants.
The tomatoes are turning red.
The cumbers are being snacked on.
The carrots we pull when we need.
The cabbage is being turned into coleslaw.
The cauliflower has been blanched and froze.
Some potatoes have been pulled and grilled.

It is good, it is delicious and we are thankful.

Here are some Resources for your Goodness coming In!
