There’s a quiet kind of peace that comes from a well-stocked pantry.
Not panic buying.
Not shelves packed with convenience foods.
But intentionally choosing ingredients that become meals—meals that nourish, stretch, and sustain.
For me, that starts with wheat berries, simple vegetables, and bone broth.
Why I Stock Wheat Berries
Wheat berries are one of the most reliable pantry staples you can have on hand. When stored properly, they last for years and can be transformed into fresh flour whenever you need it.
Fresh-milled flour isn’t just about flavor—it’s about nourishment. Bread made from freshly ground wheat berries is filling, sustaining, and deeply satisfying in a way store-bought bread never quite is.
Stocking wheat berries means:
- You control the ingredients
- You’re not dependent on store availability
- You can turn one staple into countless meals
From everyday sandwich loaves to rustic hearth breads, wheat berries give you flexibility and security in your kitchen.
Vegetables: Simple, Flexible, Essential
Whether fresh, frozen, or stored properly, vegetables are another cornerstone of a resilient pantry. When I shop through Azure Standard, I’m looking for vegetables that can easily become soups, stews, or sides without a lot of fuss.
If I’m not growing them myself or it’s something that doesn’t grow well in my area I love using Azure Standard as my back up for nutritious organic ingredients and vegetables. If you click on the image below or HERE and use the code “NEW15” you’ll receive 15% off your first order over $100 and trust me it’s worth it. If your new to Azure and would like to see how they work read this article.
Carrots, onions, celery, potatoes—these humble ingredients are the backbone of nourishing meals. Combined with broth and grains, they can feed a family well, even in lean or busy seasons. I like making chicken noodle soup with Orzo Noodles, they are much smaller and when simmered and cooked with broth they absorb all the nutrition.

Bone Broth: When You Can’t Make It Yourself
I love making bone broth from scratch, but life doesn’t always allow for simmering pots on the stove.
That’s why I always keep quality bone broth on hand or make in the crock pot. A good broth allows you to quickly create deeply nourishing soups—especially when paired with vegetables and grains.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed trying to “do it all,” this is your reminder: it’s okay to use well-sourced shortcuts. What matters is the end result—real food on the table.
From Pantry to Table
In my book, From Seed to Plate, I walk through exactly how to take simple ingredients—like vegetables and broth—and turn them into nourishing, from-scratch meals.
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s confidence.
Knowing that with a few basics in your pantry, you can feed your family well—no matter the season.
If you’re building a pantry that supports real food, food freedom, and long-term nourishment, starting with these staples is a powerful place to begin.
