Welcome to the roots revival with Food Prood; where we are going back to our roots and learning old fashioned ways in a modern world.
Hi I”m Laura, I”m a bone fide Food Prood – I care deeply what is in our food! We (Husband Justin and I) took one look at how broken our food system is and ran the other way! Can you relate? We currently raise about 80% of our own food. This includes all our veggies, most fruit and all of our meat.
I love being able to share how we do things, it doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone else but we are most comfortable in saying it’s absolutely right for us. I’m hoping you’ll be able to be inspired that it is possible for everyone to be more self sustainable, learn how to grow and raise your own food yet build community of like minded people who respect each others talents and learn from each other.
We have three wonderful children whom I homeschool and they work hard on the homestead. You won’t be seeing photos of them as we choose to keep them off of social media. I”m sure you understand.
Hope to hear from you!

I started this journey long ago. I remember when I was a teenager eating steak & potatoes over and over and over. I mean a lot of steak and potatoes. I do not like steak at all, still don’t. Of course I was that kid that just didn’t like to listen to rules or other people. So I became a vegetarian for about 15 years. During this time I learned a lot about how animals were treated in the factory farms. That was a big drive for me and oh that steak that I despised. Well fast forward – I won’t even tell you how many years- I met my husband, had our first baby and boy that changed everything. Which will be another story for another time. Now on our homestead we process our own chickens, raise our own pigs (even processed 2 ourselves!), have about 15,000 sq feet of garden space and we continue to grow. So from being a vegetarian to not only raising meat, but processing meat is quite a thing is it not?

I’m amazed looking back at how this all worked out to His plan. God has provided our family with all the things, but the big thing He has given us is the drive to get ‘er done! We didn’t start out with all this, we started very slow, replacing one thing at a time, learning one thing at a time. And the beauty of this thing called homesteading is the constant desire to learn. To learn to be more independent. To close the loops on the outside broken systems. I encourage you to do the same. One thing at a time. I’m here to help you on that journey and boy am I excited!
And on a side note, my mom named me after Laura Ingall’s Wilder and my life has oddly taken on a lot of attributes of her’s. I chose to live the lifestyle, unlike her however we have the same spitfire, go get ’em attitude! Thank you mom for choosing the name!
