Your Free Junior Cooking Club Lesson Is Ready!

Today, your child will learn how to make Fluffy Garlic Butter Breadsticks from scratch with a step-by-step video and printable recipe.

Along the way, they’ll practice measuring flour, proofing yeast, kneading dough, shaping breadsticks, and recognizing when dough is ready to bake.

There’s no need to do everything perfectly. Watch the video, pause whenever needed, and enjoy learning together.

Before You Begin

Plan approximately 2½ hours from start to finish. Most of that time is simply waiting for the dough to rise—the hands-on cooking time is much shorter.

Gather your ingredients and kitchen supplies, print the recipe below, and have an adult nearby to help with the oven, hot pans, sharp tools, or anything else that requires supervision.

Then roll up those sleeves and let’s get cookin’!

A Quick Note About Proofing Yeast

Inside Junior Cooking Club, there is an entire breadmaking module that covers flour, yeast, kneading, proofing, and how to know when bread is ready.

For today’s sample lesson, here’s what you need to know:

Warm the water to approximately 110°F. Stir in the sugar and yeast, then let the mixture sit for 5–10 minutes. When you see bubbles or foam forming, the yeast is active and ready to use.

If nothing happens, the water may have been too hot or too cold, or the yeast may no longer be active. It’s better to discover that now than after adding all your other ingredients!

Don’t Have Every Kitchen Tool?

That’s okay.

The video shows a stand mixer and bench scraper, but neither one is required. You can combine and knead the dough by hand and use a knife to divide it into breadsticks.

Use what you already have in your kitchen.
