Hi Reader

Spring is slowly waking up here above the 45th parallel, and the forest floor is becoming absolutely beautiful.

The trilliums, spring beauties, dandelions, and ramps are all starting to pop up across the woods and yard. It’s one of those seasons that reminds you just how incredible God’s creation really is.

One of my favorite simple spring treats this time of year is making dandelion shortbread cookies:

And if you planted hardneck garlic last fall, you’ll likely start seeing garlic scapes sometime in June. We LOVE using them in this recipe:

If growing garlic is on your list this year, now is the perfect time to learn before fall planting season arrives. I put together a free comprehensive training for growing garlic in a northern climate here:

Life on the homestead has also been full of baby lambs lately. Watching them run, hop, and play when they get excited has brought us so much laughter.

On the harder side of real life, our pig recently had babies and unfortunately most of them did not make it. Homesteading comes with both joy and heartbreak. I’m still searching for lessons to be learned, but sometimes this is simply part of raising animals and living closely with nature.

Inside the online membership this month, our herbal lesson is all about Plantain — an amazing herb with incredible benefits, especially for bee stings (just ask my husband!).

We’re also beginning a brand-new 6-week lesson series on raising poultry in your backyard. Raising your own meat birds is one of the most practical ways to build food security for your family, and I’m excited to walk through the full process step-by-step.

Thank you for being here and following along with our homestead journey.

About

Welcome to my Blog- I’ll share with you what our Homestead looks like and how we raise 80% of our food, all organically, sustainably, naturally and beautifully.

I’m hoping to inspire you that you can do this as well! God has provided our family with all the things, but the big thing He has given us is the drive to get ‘er done! We didn’t start out with all this, we started very slow, replacing one thing at a time, learning one thing at a time.
