Hi, I’m Laura Lawrence.

I live above the 45th parallel where my family and I have spent nearly two decades rebuilding food skills through gardening, cooking from scratch, and seasonal living.

This class is based on lived experience — not trends — and is designed to help you begin where you are.

Rooted in Real Experience

Grow your own food with confidence. Cook nourishing meals from what you grow. Build a kitchen—and a life—rooted in real food.

Every tip, recipe, and lesson comes from years of trial, error, abundance, and learning what truly works in a home garden and homestead kitchen.

I’m Laura Lawrence — a homesteader, educator, and author of Seed to Plate: A Homesteading Gardening Guide and Cookbook. My journey into homesteading began 24 years ago with a single garden box and a few tomato plants — a small start that grew into a life I now consider deeply blessed.

At the time, I was a vegetarian living off pizza, unaware of how disconnected we are from where our food comes from. Over the years, that curiosity grew into a calling. Gardening led to preserving, preserving led to raising animals, and eventually to respectfully processing our own meat — embracing the full and honest cycle of food. Through it all, I came to understand that food is more than a meal; it is fuel for our bodies, our families, and the work we are called to do.

Today, my husband and I, along with our three kids, raise and preserve the majority of our food organically. Homesteading has become not just a lifestyle, but a way to steward what we’ve been given — teaching gratitude, responsibility, and resilience, all in His name.

Through my book, speaking, and workshops, I teach real, practical skills for people who want to live more intentionally, no matter where they start. I believe a love of the garden starts with a single seed.
