I love me a good transformation and when I’m able to get out to the gardens and really spend a lot of time weeding that’s a great transformation to me!

Below you’ll find the follow up the the transformation of said weeding in the back garden.ย  I call it the back garden well because it’s in the back area of our property, plus it shaded, by the pigs and not near the house.ย  This area get’s more shade than the front garden which is in the open and get’s the sun all day long.ย  The back garden is great for my shade loving items such as:

  • Broccoli
  • Beans
  • Cauliflower
  • Cabbage
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Lettuce
  • Beets

These guys like around 6 hours of sun but they don’tย  need much more than that unlike the Tomatoes & Peppers who love the sun. If your looking at what to plant where on your property it’s really good to know what needs a lot of sun vs not as much sun so you can plant & plan accordingly.ย  You’ll find a handy guide if you click HERE (it’s free) along with some other guides that youย  may enjoy. I love printing and combining in a Gardening Journal or a 3 ring binder and will review information once a year to see what speaks to me and what I could be implementing.

BUG PROBLEMS!

The Bug problems are real this year!! I had these gnat things that hatched in a vengeance so the first day I employed my arsenal of DE (diatomaceous earth) with neem because neem is great for pests.ย  That did seem to help, however because of the rain (oh the rain we’ve received this year!) I decided to spray directly Neem Oil onto wherever they hatched which was my Oats, Corn, and some poppy and calendula plants. This appears to have worked!!

Grab the Neem Oil from Amazon that I use – there’s either a spray bottle that’s premixed for you or you could buy the concentrate and mix yourself into a one gallon sprayer like we do, makes life so much easier.

The first video was done beginning of July and the second was near the end of July – you’ll see another amazing transformation when the plants startย  booming, growing, all so green and barely any space!

I’m sorry, I switched up 2 clips in the beginning. So it might seem backwards, I apologize. I tend to work a little backwards too. Grab your journal & a pen and perhaps you’ll find some notes to take that will help in your garden now or in the future. Here is my back garden- it gets shady at times so we plant shade loving items such as beans, broccoli, cabbage, etc. This is what a real garden looks like about a month into the growing season. Our growing season in Northern Michigan is a smidge over 100 days. Hope you enjoy this full tour! Front garden to be coming soon. This is my sun loving garden.

About

Welcome to my Blog- I’ll share with you what our Homestead looks like and how we raise 80% of our food, all organically, sustainably, naturally and beautifully.

I’m hoping to inspire you that you can do this as well! God has provided our family with all the things, but the big thing He has given us is the drive to get ‘er done! We didn’t start out with all this, we started very slow, replacing one thing at a time, learning one thing at a time.
